Too many courses focus on the technical side of video and photography. It is important, but just one aspect of running a video and photography company. I've learned the hard way that taking a great video or a great photo doesn't mean automatic success. You have to develop skills that often aren't taught in video and photography classes things like:
Getting assembling gear kits – Camera, lenses, and accessories – Introduce some camera's and gear that you can use to assemble your first kit
Getting a logo – A logo is important for your brand and is one of the pillars for your marketing on-line and offline
Getting a website - If you're serious about showcasing your work and services you are going to need a website to showcase your presence on-line. This lecture will introduce you to the technology I use, where I host, and how I manage the website.
Developing a portfolio - When you are starting out you are going to invest time producing great videos and photo's to showcase to future clients. How do you get started and how do you go about it
Investing in yourself – video and photo skills - Resources and tip to develop your video skills and education to a professional level
Social media – Facebook, Pinterest, Youtube
Getting your first sales
Game day – preparation & shotlist
This course is designed to fill the gap and arm you with the information and skills you need to start running your video and photography company. I've structured the course so it is logical beginning with the basics and progressing to skills you'll need to learn as you get customers and deliver your products to them. I also introduce a different business model for earning an income with your videos for those that are not comfortable with networking and meeting new people.
I've created this course because I've been through the struggles to figure out how to run a video business and want to pass on what I learned. My hope is by taking this course you can save a lot of the time, money, and effort it took me to figure out what I've learned so far.
Hi! I was born in South Africa but as a child my family relocated to Canada and lived most of adult life in beautiful British Columbia. I remember getting a VHS camcorder and would make and direct my own home videos with my sisters. I attended Simon Fraser University (SFU) with a Communications degree and had another opportunity to film an educational hip-hop video for earth quakes. After I graduated university I went on to have a successful IT career working 13 years in the field. As an IT manager I went onto pursue my MBA at SFU and found inspiration to start my own business and travel and film.By the time I had completed my MBA in 2011 I had found my passion travel, business, and filming.
During a wild and intense 3-year period I sold my house and purchased a camera and traveled the globe with my camera in search of adventure. I traveled to places such as Beijing, Singapore, Shanghai, The Grand Canyon, and Turks and Caicos. During this period a new revolution with the SLR camera was allowing people to create cinema quality video. I spent countless hours trying to learn everything I could from the best to hone my craft.I currently have over 100 videos on youtube and have one of the strongest travel video collections on the Internet. I recommend you check out my videos on-line if you’re interested in watching my videos.
After returning to Vancouver I planned my next travel adventure to Australia, Asia, and Taiwan. I sold my car and all my possessions and arrived in Taiwan with my essentials, camera gear, and my dreams. I currently live in Taiwan learning mandarin, teaching English, and filming travel videos.
I believe I’m a continuous learner (currently learning Mandarin) and I’m always looking for new and interesting ways to learn things.I get upset when an article gives advice or directions and it is so general it leaves out the important details. I try to provide detailed step-by-step instructions using visuals or video. I hope you find my courses interesting and I see you in there!
